3D was the draw here but even that was hit and miss. It ticks along at a decent pace, not many slow spots, but everything else about it can be summed up as "average". Once you've seen it, you won't need to see it again and you'll forget about it almost as soon as you stop watching.

The CGI and special effects look noticably fake these days, it's quite clear when something is a green screen or digitized in but I think that was partially the effect the makers were going for - it's a fake world anyway! There are some scenes in this movie that try to ellicite a sense of awe but the colours aren't that bright through 3D glasses and the fake CGI backgrounds were too basic to be impressive - similar scenes have looked a lot better in other movies, like Journey 2! My favourite part of the film is the T-Rex at the centre of the earth - it's not that it was particularly scary or enthralling but I'm a sucker for dinosaurs.įinal Verdict: Ambitious maybe, but it's also very, very forgettable. The acting is pretty average and often cheesy, but it does have some charm because of it, much like the sequel, I guess. The action also moved a bit fast in some scenes that the 3D couldn't be enjoyed. In fact at times it was TOO 3D and gave me a headache. The story is relatively unique but the jokes arn't and the use of 3D is very gimicky as opposed to smart.
